NT-proBNP are peptides that are continuously produced in the heart. When the muscles in the left ventricle over-stretch as in heart failure, the secretion of these peptides into blood increases. One may utilize the level of NT-proBNP in blood to assess the cardiac event and its severity. Both of BNP and NT-proBNP can be used to show different aspects of the heart failure.
